Solar Schools

The ÎÛÎÛÂþ» began investing in renewable energy technologies in 2010, with a particular focus on the installation of solar PV systems on school rooftops. The ÎÛÎÛÂþ» has a total installed capacity of approximately 38 megawatts (MW) on 358 buildings.

  • The first systems were installed by the ÎÛÎÛÂþ» on 10 schools. The ÎÛÎÛÂþ» has a contract to sell this electricity to the Independent Electricity System Operator, projected to earn a total of about $3.4 million for the Environmental Legacy Fund over the duration of the 20-year contract.
  • An agreement with Potentia Renewable Inc. saw a further 347 ÎÛÎÛÂþ» schools and buildings have solar PV systems installed on their rooftops. Overall, this program saw the installation of close to 148,000 solar panels.
  • The Beach Community Energy Cooperative has 1 installation at Kew Beach PS.

These solar arrays on ÎÛÎÛÂþ» schools offset about 8,000 tonnes of CO2 each year. The ÎÛÎÛÂþ»'s solar panel installations are part of the program which encourages greater use of renewable energy sources including solar photovoltaic (PV).

We receive monthly data from 347 buildings with Potentia solar panels, that were installed between 2014 and 2017. This data is updated periodically as we receive it from Potentia. The first 10 buildings from 2010 are included in this list, but with "no data" (we will include this data once it is tracked).

  • Click on a year button to load in all buildings; the list can be filtered by name, address or ward.
  • Click on a school name to see all data for that school. Click on the address to see the building in Google Maps.
