Each year the Parent/Caregiver and Community Engagement Office (PCCEO)  provides training opportunities for School Councils  across the system to support the important work of School Councils.

January 29, 2025 6:30 - 8pm Open, Respectful and Constructive dialogue The presentation “Civil Discourse: Open, Respectful, and Constructive Dialogue" focuses on how School Councils can build trust, inclusivity, and transparency through effective communication. This presentation can be useful to all parents and caregivers as it highlights the importance of active listening, critical thinking, and open dialogue in fostering collaboration and addressing sensitive topics such as equity and cultural representation. February 18, 2025 6:30 - 8pm School Council: Planning Events and Information Sessions This presentation supports School Councils in planning events and information sessions that engage the school community. The goal is to encourage collaboration with parents, caregivers, and staff, organizing, promoting inclusively, ensuring accessibility, and evaluating success. April 8, 2025 6:30 - 8pm Building capacity – School Council membership and Volunteers School Council cannot exist without parents/caregivers - as members and volunteers.  This presentation will offer ideas to help your Council plan for elections, recruit potential members within your community and help them prepare for the work ahead. It will also explore the topic of volunteers - why they are important to the work of the Council, how to develop and grow a working list of parents/caregivers, and how to keep them coming back.  Ricardo Francis and Nancy Angevine-Sands
May 13, 2025 6:30 - 8pm School Council: End-of-year planning and succession planning This presentation supports School Councils in wrapping up the year effectively while preparing new and existing members for a smooth transition to the next. The focus is on reflecting on accomplishments, setting goals for the future, and celebrating community contributions. Participants will learn strategies for creating clear succession plans, accountability, recruiting, and training new members, and ensuring continuity in leadership. Emphasis is placed on collaboration, inclusivity, and maintaining momentum for the School Council’s ongoing success.
