On February 26 and 27, thousands of ÎÛÎÛÂþ» students from grades 7 to 11 participated in online polls to elect their 2025-26 Student Trustees. With 35 enthusiastic candidates in grades 10 and 11 running for the two positions, students had the opportunity to watch video speeches and make informed choices for their leadership.
The ÎÛÎÛÂþ» Board of Trustees is thrilled to welcome Ahnaaf Hassan, a Grade 11 student at R. H. King Academy, and Victor Jiang, a Grade 11 student at Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute, as the 2025-26 Student Trustees.
In his campaign video, Ahnaaf shared his understanding of the challenges students face in the education system. He looks forward to advocating for the resources and policies that students need to be successful in school.
Victor’s campaign highlighted the changes students have experienced this school year. During his term, he aims to foster improvements in secondary school admissions, club funding, field trips, and school facilities.
Each year, two Student Trustees are elected to sit on the Board of Trustees to represent the voice of approximately 239,000 ÎÛÎÛÂþ» students. They attend Board and Committee meetings and act as a link to students, the Board, and school communities. The Student Trustees will also sit on the Student Senate and work closely with Student Senate members and school communities to empower and promote student voice and engagement across the district.
Congratulations to Ahnaaf and Victor on their election as the 2025-26 Student Trustees, as well as all candidates who ran for these positions. Your enthusiasm and commitment to student leadership are inspiring, and you have all demonstrated the importance of student voice in public education.
