The is proud to recognize Greek Heritage Month (GHM) over the month of March. This heritage is also celebrated across the Province of Ontario since 2019 with the implementation of the Hellenic Heritage Month Act. This Act reads, in part:
“March is a significant month for the Hellenic community and March 25 is celebrated each year as Greek Independence Day. Proclaiming March as Hellenic Heritage Month provides an opportunity to remember, celebrate and educate future generations about the outstanding achievements and contributions of the Hellenic Canadians in the province.”
2025 marks 10 years of recognizing GHM at the ! For this reason, our theme for this year is:
Odyssey - A Decade of Celebrating Greek Heritage Month

To mark Greek Heritage Month, the has planned several educational activities. One notable event for Grade 6 students was a partnership with the Hellenic Heritage Foundation to present "The Making of Greektown: A Walking Tour of Danforth Avenue.” This tour introduces students to Greektown, offering a lively and engaging experience that combines history and architecture.
The Greek Heritage Month Volunteer Planning Committee is excited to share the winning images from our Poster Contest that welcomed participation from all students. These posters featured at the bottom of this post are to be placed in an appropriate location within each school/site.
students are welcome to submit a short video (30 seconds max) in response to the following question: What does being Greek or a Philhellene (a friend of Greek culture) mean to you?
The video may be chosen to become a part of the GHM's 10-year anniversary video that could be shared at the Greek Heritage Month celebrations this March.

- GHM Opening Ceremony
- Saturday, March 1 from 10 to 11 a.m.
- Donview Middle School (20 Evermede Drive, North York, ON)
- GHM Closing Ceremony
- Saturday, April 5 from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
- Greek Community of Toronto (30 Thorncliffe Park Drive, East York, ON)
- This afternoon of music, dance, and photo displays will include entertainment from students and community members. Light refreshments will be provided.
- Annual Greek Independence Day Parade
- Sunday, April 6 at 1 p.m.
- Meeting place on the field at Kapapamahchakwew – Wandering Spirit School (16 Phin Avenue, Toronto, ON)
