At the March 27, 2024 ribbon-cutting event, representatives from Compugen Inc., Canada's largest privately-owned and operated Technology Ally, Intel, Umety Solutions, and Viewsonic joined the Centre of Excellence for Black Student Achievement as they celebrated the unveiling of a suite of new technology. The new technology equipment is to support the Centre of Excellence for Black Student Achievement’s Collaborative Inquiry Room at the ÎÛÎÛÂþ». The celebratory event allowed for students, district leaders, community members to see and experience the newly updated space first-hand.
Founded in 2020, the Centre of Excellence for Black Student Achievement is the first of its kind in Canada’s public education system. Since then, it has become a culturally-affirming program space for students, staff and families to learn, collaborate, imagine better futures, and create new opportunities for students. With the infusion of new technology donated by Compugen, students will be able to more deeply engage in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) activities, including virtual reality, and utilize new media and design tools to expand their interests, and education.
“The Centre intentionally leads programming that supports the improvement of outcomes of Black students in our District – meaning access to resources and introducing students to various pathways,” said Karen Murray, System Superintendent, Equity, Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression. “We graciously accept Compugen’s donation on behalf of our many students, staff and families who will have an opportunity to not only engage with cutting-edge technology but be the producers of it.”
“It fills us with great pride to support the ÎÛÎÛÂþ» by providing new equipment for the Centre of Excellence for Black Student Achievement and training for staff,” said Joe Simms, Compugen’s Senior Sales Director, West + Central Public Sector. “Compugen rallies behind the mission of the Centre of Excellence for Black Student Achievement to provide students with access to emerging technology. Our objective is to amplify the Centre’s efforts toward shaping the future of education and sparking curiosity and passion for IT among its Black student population.”
